Start planning now and enjoy an Easter to remember!

Most South Africans had a rather subdued festive season, leaving everyone keen for a fun-filled and memorable getaway this Easter. If you’re looking for a holiday that promises equal parts relaxation and adventure, as well as both indoor spoils and outdoor excursions suitable for the whole family, then the Garden Route should be at the top of your list!

Here are a few of our top picks for exciting things to do over the Easter long weekend – as well as the first term school holidays – along with a break-down of our Discover Family Moments special offer.

  • Fancourt’s Kidz Club

There’s always something stimulating for the kids to do over the long weekend and throughout the school holidays at Fancourt. We’ve assigned a new theme for each day to keep things interesting, such as Earth Day on April 3rd where the little ones burn off energy during a scavenger hunt, make their own edible dirt cookies (yes, really!) and plant microgreens, and Harvest Day on April 30th where they can get messy with carrot crafts and learn more about aquaponics. Obviously, there will also be lots of Easter-themed fun, including an exciting Easter egg hunt on our sprawling lawns on Easter Sunday.

Note that the Kidz Club is perfect for children between the ages of 3 and 10. There’s also a Teen Zone lounge filled with age-appropriate activities for the older kids, such as table tennis, air hockey, foosball, pool, and PlayStation.

  • Our Easter programme

Our recreational Easter programme ensures that adults get just as much joy out the holiday as their kids do! From early morning Zumba classes for a decent dose of endorphins to fishing the afternoon away at one of our well-stocked dams (catch and release only, please), the programme is crammed with both active and laid-back activities for everyone to enjoy.

Alternatively? Laze at the pool with a good book, escape to The Spa or enjoy an early evening stroll along our wonderful botanical walk, which combines historical points of interest and plenty of fauna and flora in one fascinating trail!

  • Strawberry picking at Redberry Farm

The entire family will love a visit to Redberry Farm, just around the corner from us in George! Think punnets of fresh berries, a giant maze, the Redberry Express and even go-carts and bumper boats! Be sure to round off the family excursion with a light meal or a beverage at the farm’s tea garden, pizzeria, deli, or a coffee bar.

  • Dolphin paragliding

You’ll have the opportunity to enjoy an adrenalin spike in the form of dolphin paragliding in Wilderness, Sedgefield, Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, Mossel Bay, or George. Believe it or not, this isn’t an activity reserved for adults and older teens. Even younger kids can get in on the action! The Dolphin Paragliding company allows for tandem flights where a qualified, professional paraglider will accompany you as you sail through the blue skies and keep your eyes peeled for dolphins and whales darting in and out of the crashing waters below.

  • Ocean safaris

If you’d like to get a closer look at the Garden Route’s majestic sea life without taking to the skies in the process, then ocean safaris are more your vibe. Hop aboard a boat and cruise for a couple of hours past Plettenberg Bay to Robberg Nature Reserve. You’re almost certain to spot whales, dolphins, seals, and plenty of pelagic birds throughout the cruise, with the slight chance of also catching sight of some sharks along the way.

Of course, our Leisure Team is on hand to suggest and book a number of great excursions for the whole family!

  • The Garden Route Walking Festival

Make the most of the natural wonders of the Garden Route with a brisk, scenic walk as part of the ever-popular Garden Route Walking Festival. It’s set to take place from April 2nd – April 5th (obviously this will all be COVID and lockdown dependent). Now’s the time to visit to view the relevant walking dates and sign up for the ones in which you are most interested. All of the 45 planned walks will be guided by volunteers or professional walking guides, and most are free to join.

A few highlights include the Kids’ Coastal Pirate Walk where the children come dressed as pirates and stand a chance to win a prize, and the Birding Bird Walk in Great Brak where participants will be able to spot a number of coastal feathered friends.
